You Can't Beat A Classic
When it comes to cannabis, we're simply spoilt for choice; with everything from F1 Hybrids to Triploids, it's essential to revisit the classics and sample what are essentially the “building blocks” of many of the strains you know and love. That's why we've chosen five photoperiod cultivars and some of their autoflowering counterparts that you might want to check out.
So, whether you're new to the cannabis cultivation game or just looking for inspiration for new growing projects, you're in the right place. As they say, “You can't beat a classic”, and we aim to prove it.
Meet A Legendary Line-Up: The Strains
We've got some absolute legends lined up for April. From Power Plant to Trainwreck, there's truly something for everyone below. Allow us to take you through this star-studded selection of classic legends.
Bubba Kush
As the end-product of a Bubba Kush x OG Kush cross, this legendary strain is thought to be named after a breeder known as “Bubba”, but there's no definitive proof of how this strain originated. However, it certainly rose to prominence in 1990s California and has become a mainstay amongst cannabis fans to this very day. Now, you can get your hands on Zamnesia's very own take. Bubba Kush is an indica-dominant strain that reaches heights of around 120cm inside and up to 200cm outdoors. All it takes is 8–9 weeks of flowering before Bubba Kush is ready to deliver harvests that will hit 450g/m² inside and 600g/plant outside. With legendary hearty and spicy flavours in tow, there's no mistaking a hit of this strain. Effects are just as potent, as it leans heavily on the 22% THC to showcase highs that are strong and psychedelic.
Bubba Kush (Zamnesia Seeds) feminized
While the original Bubba Kush isn't super tough to cultivate, growers will be pleased to learn of an autoflowering version that's also available. Taking just 11–12 weeks from germination to harvest, this shorter plant will stand at around 100–140cm, inside and out. Once harvest time comes around, expect 450g/m² inside and up to 150g/plant outside. Bubba Kush Automatic effortlessly showcases the same great fuel-infused flavours and strong highs as its photoperiod parent.
Trainwreck
There's nothing “off the rails” about this particular strain; it has reliable bud production, unique flavours, and some energetic effects. It's thought this specific strain was bred in the 1960s–70s, when there was a huge train wreck near an outdoor growing op in California. In fear that the toppled trains could draw unwanted attention, the breeders harvested early and sold it as “Trainwreck”. However, for every cannabis story, there are always other people who claim they have the true tale. But with Zamnesia's Trainwreck cultivar, you're getting a tremendous sativa-dominant experience, from plants that can hit 300cm outside or settle at 120cm indoors, making an appealing prospect for all. Once ready after a mere 7–9 week, easygoing flowering phase, growers can expect to see some sizeable returns of around 500g/m² and around 900g/plant indoors and outdoors, respectively. With buds teeming with sweet lemon and spicy pine flavours and euphoric and energising highs, there are many reasons why this strain is still so popular.
Trainwreck (Zamnesia Seeds) feminized
Of course, the Trainwreck experience wouldn't be complete without an autoflowering counterpart. Trainwreck Automatic is suitable for all growers and can flourish in any environment you place it in. Taking just 11–12 weeks from start to finish, this plant is a vigorous grower and delivers large yields that rival the original.
Granddaddy Purple
A more contemporary classic, Granddaddy Purple is a legendary purple-coloured cannabis strain bred in 2003 in the Bay Area of the US and was made commercial by legendary creator Ken Estes. Zamnesia's take is a potent combination of Granddaddy Purple and Purple Kush, and the results are stunning. Expect sweet, earthy and fruity flavours from a plant that can reach 90cm indoors and 180cm outside. Taking just 9–10 weeks to flower fully, this purple-coloured princess can deliver yields of around 500g/m² indoors, with outdoor projects telling a similar story. Renowned for its soothing and relaxing effects, Granddaddy Purple is ideal for kicking back with.
Granddaddy Purple (Zamnesia Seeds) feminized
Although the photoperiod version is relatively easy to cultivate, growers can make it even easier for themselves, thanks to Granddaddy Purple Automatic. This pint-sized purple plant stands a little more compact but can still deliver large yields in the region of 500g/m² inside and up to 175g/plant outdoors. Expect the same great flavours, effects and purple hues from this cultivar.
Critical Mass
As one of the first strains available in cannabis legend Howard Marks'—aka, Mr Nice's—seedbank, Critical Mass first rose to popularity around 1998 and is still hugely sought after today. This spicy strain results from a pairing of Afghani and Skunk #1. As an indica-dominant strain, Critical Mass stays low to the ground indoors, hitting heights of 100cm, but outside has the potential to reach 220cm if it goes without any taming or training. Sizeable harvests are available here after 7–8 weeks of flowering, where growers can enjoy yields of up to 600g/m² inside and 600g/plant after an effortless cultivating experience. Buds emanate intense, spicy and fruity flavours that culminate in relaxing and soothing effects.
Critical Mass (Zamnesia Seeds) feminized
By combining Critical Mass with some ruderalis genetics, an autoflowering version is available for all growers. With great results taking 9–10 weeks from seed to harvest, Critical Mass Automatic is truly effortless to grow and is no doubt appealing to absolute beginners. Once ready, yields hit around 500g/m² when grown in the best possible conditions. Experience fruity and sweet buds in the most accessible way!
Power Plant
Rounding off this list of legends is Power Plant. It is a strain that was originally formulated by Dutch breeders back in the 1990s before it was finally unleashed to the public in 1997. Since then, Power Plant has been revered as a means to boost creativity and provide euphoria and energy when needed most. This sativa-dominant strain takes 7–8 weeks of flowering time before it is ready to harvest, and indoor plants will reach 130cm and deliver buds in the region of 500g/m². Outside, this cultivar can reach 220cm and offer 700g/plant in terms of return. Alongside the effects mentioned above, earthy, spicy and sweet flavours are your rewards for growing your own Power Plant.
Power Plant (Zamnesia Seeds) feminized
Taking 10–11 weeks from seed to harvest, Power Plant Automatic is the autoflowering version that delivers 600g/m² inside and 550g/plant outdoors. With happy and cerebral effects and the same great flavours, there's no denying this amazing autoflower's appeal.
