INGREDIENTS

Ingredients

  • 10 grams of cannabis – you can use both bud and trim for this. Bud will result in a more potent sauce, but it can be a good way to use up trim that would otherwise go to waste.
  • ⅓ cup of vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup of tomato paste
  • ½ cup of mango juice
  • ¼ cup of water
  • 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
  • 3 Tbsps of finely chopped green onion
  • 2 Tbsps of brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsps of organic cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsps of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp of Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp of honey
  • 1Tbsp of soy sauce
  • ½ Tbsp of chilli flakes/powder
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper
  • A pinch of ginger powder
  • 1 small lime, juiced.
  • Optional: 1 Tbsp of corn-starch to thicken up the sauce (if required)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

To begin with, you will either need a stove and cooking pan, or better yet, a crockpot, (we will write as if a crockpot is being used).

1. First, grind your cannabis into as fine a powder as you can.

2. Put your cannabis, a splash of water, oil, onions and lime juice into the pot.

3. Cook it at a low setting on your crockpot for at least 90 minutes, stirring occasionally. You do not want to bring the mixture to a boil.

4. Next add in the rest of your ingredients and mix it all up.

5. Turn the heat up to medium so that the mixture begins to gently simmer. This will ensure that the cannabis becomes decarboxylated, and the THC within it active.

6. Continue to cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, for an additional 45 minutes.

7. The sauce should begin to reduce. Once it has reached a consistency you would like, turn off the crockpot and take a taste.

8. Season with salt and pepper as you like.

9. Store in an airtight container in your fridge.

10. Enjoy!

Generally speaking, a few tablespoons of this sauce should be enough to get you comfortably buzzing, but everyone is different, and the type of cannabis used will largely affect the strength. The sauce is suitable for both basting and for use as a condiment, just remember, edibles take up to an hour to kick in, so don’t go overboard! When refrigerated, this sauce will last up to a couple of weeks.
