8 Tips For Taking A Cannabis Tolerance Break

3 min

Taking a break from cannabis every once in a while is a good thing. It can help bring your tolerance back down to Earth. Here are our top 8 ways to survive your tolerance break.

So you've decided you are going to take a break from cannabis, your favorite pastime, to get your tolerance back in check. Once upon a time, two or three hits and you were done. Now, two or three blunts and you're still not sure if you're high. It happens to the best of us and the only real way around it is to take a break. Taking a break from cannabis can help reset your tolerance. I know, I know, that's like giving up water, but it really isn't the end of the world. There are a ton of ways that you can take your weed vacation and not go crazy in the process. Here are our top 8 ways to make sure your break from cannabis doesn't break you!

WEEN YOURSELF OFF

When you know you have a break coming up, there's no need to go cold turkey. Cut your consumption in half in the weeks leading up to your break. Then cut it in half again. And again if you want. You're not trying to quit, just take a break to shed some THC from your system. Cutting your consumption leading up to your time of abstinence will make the transition a piece of cake. Cut out your first smoke of the day. Can you make it till lunch before indulging? Then try making it till dinner. Try to get it down to the point that you are only smoking before bed, like a sweet night cap. Slowly cutting back before a break is the surefire way to go.

PUT YOUR PIPES AWAY

Keeping your pipes and your beautiful collection of glass out of sight will help. Not that you aren't strong enough to see them every day and not use them, but when you are trying to take a break, every little thing helps. It's funny how when you smoke all the time, your weed tools become a central part of your routine. They never really get put up because you're always using them. You'll be surprised how putting your tools away for once can change the décor of your flat and really shake up your regular routines.

STAY BUSY

Keeping active is a must. For the occasional few, cannabis can spark a wave of energy that propels them through their day. For the rest of us, it can often make us a little too comfortable with being comfortable. Getting off the couch and keeping you and your mind occupied will make your weed-fast fly by. A watched pot never boils, or so they say. The purpose of your break is to free your body of THC, and while you're at it, you should free yor mind of it as well. Has there been anything you wanted to do that you just could never get to ... cause you were high? Well now's your chance. Keep yourself moving throughout your break and it'll be over before you know it.

SUBSTITUTE ACTIVITY

Substituting activity for those times you would normally be smoking is crucial, yet perilous. If your pot smoking habits fall into regularly scheduled sessions, substituting another activity in place of your bong rips will help you through this sad time. But beware! Don't substitute dabs for trips to the fridge. When taking a break from cannabis, it can be easy to substitute one substance for another, and this can be dangerous. You don't want to turn to junk food as a substitute for the cannabis that is missing for your daily diet.

On the other hand, if you wanted to eat a salad every time you wanted a smoke, I can't help think that would be great. It can be easy to look for something to fill the void that your cannabis break has left behind. Be smart in your decisions and don't fill that void with junk.

EXERCISE

Yeah, yeah I know ... exercise is something that we should all be doing anyways but lets face it, not all of us are. Exercise will help keep you healthy and prolong your life. It will also help keep your mind off the weed while your body pumps what remaining THC you have in your system right out. It has been shown that intense cardio workouts will flush excess THC out of your system by boosting your body's metabolic rate. Jogging, hiking, biking and physical sports are a great way to keep you in shape while you cleanse your system. You never know, you may end up replacing your usual buzz with a runner's high!

ENJOY OTHER HERBS

If you really like smoking herbs but you know you need to take a break from cannabis, there are a variety of other completely legal and readily available alternatives for you to try. There is Kratom, which has been used for pain and as a sedative. There is Damiana, which is often smoked or brewed into tea. It has been used for a variety of ailments, including anxiety and nausea. There are dozens of different herbal blends that offer a variety of effects, available online or in your local head shop.

MEDITATE

Meditation is one of the oldest forms of internal exploration. It offers a peace and a serenity unmatched. Often when we take a break from cannabis, our minds have a tendency to become anxious. Meditation can help calm the mind and help unwind some of those mental bonds we have with our favorite plant. Meditation can take you to realms far beyond those of cannabis. It can bring comfort and understanding. Isolate yourself in a dark room and eliminate unwanted sounds. Allow the inner workings of your mind carry you on a journey. When you return, it'll be a wonder if you even think about cannabis again ... at least for a while.

ENJOY YOUR SAVINGS

The one thing you cannot deny is that no matter how you cut it, cannabis costs money. For an avid smoker, it isn't unusual to spend a couple hundred quid a month or more. For some, their weed is the most expensive bill of the month. Being the highest dollar cash crop in the world, even at the rock bottom prices we are seeing, it can still take a chunk out of your budget. Taking a break from buying cannabis will put a mountain of cash back in your pocket and allow you to treat yourself to something nice. Maybe that heady bubbler you've been looking at or maybe an electric nail. Taking a break from smoking doesn't mean you can't plan for the day you come back. The money you save can help make your return even more glorious.
