North Spore - Lion's Mane Liquid Culture: A Perfect Beginner Mushroom Strain
Lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus) is a high-producing commercial mushroom variety native to North America, Asia, and Europe. A member of the hydnoid fungi group (also known as tooth fungi), lion's mane produces large, plump, white fruiting clusters that are edible and held in high esteem for a plethora of supposed benefits. For mushroom cultivators, lion's mane serves as an easy-to-grow and high-yielding variety with many uses. Lion's mane is particularly rich in a variety of phytochemicals, particularly polysaccharides such as β-glucan, hericenones, and erinacines.
How to Grow Lion's Mane Mushrooms at Home
North Spore's Lion's Mane Liquid Culture contains USDA-certified organic culture and makes the cultivation of lion's mane mushrooms super simple. If you're new to mycology and fungiculture, this is a great beginner variety that's forgiving and easy to grow. Plus, thanks to the quality of North Spore's Liquid Cultures, you can expect fast colonization of your medium and multiple bountiful flushes.
Contained in a sterilized syringe, North Spore's Lion's Mane Liquid Culture simplifies the process of inoculating grow bags, tubs, or buckets (jars are not ideal for this variety due to the mushroom's size and growth style). Note that liquid culture contains mushroom mycelium, not spores, offering faster colonization and harvests.
Storing and Handling Mushroom Liquid Cultures
Upon receipt, store your liquid culture in the fridge for up to 2 months. At the time of inoculation, sterilize your work area and tools, and shake your syringe to disperse the culture. Always inject liquid cultures through self-healing, sterilized injection ports into a sterile medium. For the best results, we recommend inoculating your medium in a still air box, or in an area with little airflow.
