A hygrometer and thermometer are an essential part of any serious grower's kit. Getting a good final yield from a mushroom grow (or any other kind of grow) is not a matter of chance. Knowing their conditions, and manipulating them to be optimal for growth and quality is key to being a good cultivator. Fortunately, measuring temperature and humidity is neither difficult nor expensive. With the easy-to-use Zamnesia hygrometer/thermometer, you can measure the conditions of your grow and get the best possible results.
A hygrometer measures humidity—water content held in the air. A thermometer, a more well known tool, measures temperature—in the case of growing plants, often air temperature.
Knowing both of these metrics is essential to successfully growing magic mushrooms. Growing mushrooms requries a stable and high humidity of around 90%. Depending on the stage of magic mushroom development, a temperature range of 18 – 28℃ is also required. Mushrooms can't just be left in whatever conditions your house and the weather dictate if you want to maximise your yields.
Knowledge is power, and without monitoring these variables, you are leaving a lot up to chance.
However, it's not just mushrooms which benefits from stable, controlled environments. More or less anything that grows has optimal conditions. For instance, salvia requires a humid environment that gradually reduces over weeks to the ambient humidity. Likewise, chilli peppers and kanna have optimum conditions within which they thrive.
And cannabis! Cannabis requires a variety of humidities and temperatures throughout its lifecycle. When you spend months on a grow, you may as well invest in this small and inexpensive tool to get the very most out of your efforts. When using a grow tent, it's important not to allow it to get too hot or too humid. This can stress your plants, and increase the likelihood of things such as bud rot.
So if you were in any doubt, you can be sure that a hygrometer/thermometer is a worthy investment.
Hygrometer / Thermometer
For such a helpful little gadget, the Zamnesia hygrometer/thermometer is simple to use.
The display shows three things:
As for control, there are three buttons which allow you to:
The display and controls are attached to the probes via a long wire. This means that you can observe the conditions and change the controls from outside your grow setup, minimising your need to interfere in the space. The probes can be attached to almost any kind of surface with two suction cups.
For further instructions on specific usage, read below.
The Zamnesia hygrometer/thermometer is ready to use in a few simple steps.
Depending on what you're growing, identify the best place for you meter to go. With mushroom grows, this is at about the height of a mature mushroom. With cannabis, it's a little more complicated. Conditions can vary a lot, even with ventilation. Ideally, around 3 meters should be used – one at the top, middle and bottom of the grow space. Otherwise, consider rotating 1 around the space.
Once you've identified a suitable space, you can attach the probes to a nearby surface (or something which can be moved around the space) using the attached suction cups.
Now place the display somewhere where you can easily access it without disturbing the grow.
Neither the humidity nor temperature probe are totally waterproof. Therefore it's important to avoid direct contact with water.
As you can see, this small and easy-to-use hygrometer/thermometer can drastically improve the control you have over your grow. For plants and fungi particularly, temperature and humidity play a crucial role in their development, and optimising their conditions ultimately optimises the quality and size of your final yield.
