Clavo Huasca is a gigantic Amazonian vine that has long been used for medicinal purposes. Crawling up the giants of the Amazon, Clavo Huasca is known to reach a whopping 80m in height, offering ample plant material for the natives who harvest it for use.
Although fairly new(ish) to Western Markets, Clavo Huasca has a long history of use in Peruvian medicine for both medical and aphrodisiac applications. The roots and bark of clavo huasca, (which are also the parts of the vine that hold its active ingredients), produce a distinct clove like smell, leading it to be commonly known as clove vine, or white clove.
Clavo Huasca has recently been adopted by Western markets, where it is mainly use for its aphrodisiac qualities.
The main use of clavo huasca is as an aphrodisiac, and it is primarily sold as such. This stems from its indigenous use, as in Peruvian herbal medicine clavo huasca is used as a remedy for both frigidity and erectile dysfunction, increasing potency and passion in both men and women. In fact, it is such a popular sexual aid, that it is sold throughout Peru in most herbal markets and stores.
The ground up bark and roots are usually soaked in cane alcohol to help extract its compounds and turn it into an administrable beverage; although today, taking it as a tea or tincture is much more common.
To use clavo huasca, add 1-2 teaspoons into a cup and pour in boiling water. Stir the mixture and allow it too steep for 10-15 minutes. Once the brew has been allowed to sufficiently steep, strain the mixture and drink. The ideal time to drink a clavo huasca tea is 30 minutes before you want the desired effects to take hold.
Alternatively, you can easily make a tincture out of the plant. Simply fill a glass with the herb and then top up with the strongest vodka you can find. Let it sit for at least 2 weeks, while shaking the glass once a day. After this period, filter out the plant matter and fill the liquid into a dropper bottle.
