Is eating cannabis stronger than smoking it?
Compared to smoking, cannabis edibles have the potential to hit much harder. But this isn't just down to chance. Scientifically speaking, when eating an edible, THC is processed by the digestive system and then the liver, which converts the THC into a much more potent molecular form known as 11-hydroxy-THC. While smoking or vaping produces some 11-hydroxy-THC, the amount is much smaller by comparison.
Risks of eating weed waffles
Although weed waffles are a sweet treat, those not well-versed in edibles may make the mistake of underestimating just how potent they can be. Compared to smoking, the effects of edibles can take a lot longer to kick in—up to an hour or more—which can lead to users overindulging before they realise it.
Arguably, this is the most significant “risk” of eating weed waffles. While overindulging may take users by surprise, this feeling will pass and is not considered serious. The same can be said for the following side effects. While none are life-threatening or especially severe, it's worth keeping note, especially for newcomers trying edibles for the first time.
Side effects of edibles include:
- Drowsiness
- Increased heart rate
- Mood changes
- Nausea
- Stomach cramps/diarrhoea
- Lightheadedness
How to make weed waffles
Now that you're clued in on what to expect from your cannabis-infused treats, it's time for us to share our knockout recipe for weed waffles. All that's needed are a few ingredients and pieces of equipment, and you're good to go.
Ingredients
- 70g white sugar
- 2 eggs, yolks and whites separated
- 350g self-raising flour
- 480ml milk
- 115g cannabutter
- 1½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp salt
- Cooking spray for waffle iron
- Chocolate sauce, ice cream, or any toppings you like (sweet or savoury!)
Equipment
- 2x mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Whisk
- Waffle iron
- Ladle
- Electric mixer (optional)
Directions
With your ingredients and equipment at the ready, here are the steps for making your very own weed waffles. As with all edibles recipes, be patient and take your time with each step, and you simply can't go wrong!
1. Combine your cannabutter, sugar, and egg yolks in a mixing bowl, and mix it all together with your wooden spoon. Combine until the mixture is of an even consistency.
2. Next, add your vanilla extract into the mix, then gradually pour in the flour and milk, alternating between the two. Continue to stir until the mixture is smooth.
3. Take your second mixing bowl, add the egg whites, and whisk them until they begin to foam up. Continue to whisk until the egg whites form stiff peaks. This will require some effort, so if you'd rather opt for an electric whisk or mixer, feel free to do so.
4. Fold the whisked egg whites into the other mixing bowl and stir to create the final waffle batter. Allow the mixture to sit for about 40 minutes before use.
5. Once the mixture is ready, you can prepare your waffle iron. Use your cooking spray to coat the iron.
6. Use a ladle to pour some waffle mix onto the iron. Close the lid and let the waffles cook until golden brown.
7. Once ready, it's time to enjoy your weed waffles! Of course, part of the fun of these sweet treats is covering them with your favourite toppings. So pour on the chocolate sauce, load up the ice cream, and cover with sweets and fruits. Or, if you prefer things a little more savoury, add some cheese, veggies, or meat—it's entirely up to you. The only limit is your imagination!
