For some foodies, spice is that little extra pep needed to bring out the tantalising nature of their meal. Well, imagine combining that buzz on your tongue with a soothing and relaxing buzz throughout your body. It is all possible with this marijuana-infused hot sauce recipe. Spice lovers rejoice!

Our hot sauce recipe will first show you how to make your own hot sauce, then how to infuse with weed. Just to add a little bow on top, we have also added a spicy chicken wing recipe, to put the sauce to good use!

Note: This recipe requires cannabutter. You can learn how to make your own here!

INGREDIENTS

For the hot sauce:

  • 300-500g of your favourite chillies (stems removed) – red jalapenos work well
  • 1 Whole garlic (cloves seperated)
  • 5 large tomatoes, halved
  • 1 onion, halved (optional)
  • ½ cup of cider vinegar
  • ½ cup of water
  • 2 tbsp. of cane sugar
  • 1 tbsp. of sea salt
  • Drizzle of olive oil
  • 60g of cannabutter

For the chicken wings

  • Chicken wings
  • Olive oil
  • 1 tsp. of ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. of salt
  • 1 tsp. of paprika
  • 1 tsp. of garlic powder

INSTRUCTIONS

The hot sauce

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.

  2. Line a baking tray with non-stick paper. Place the individual cloves of garlic, onion and tomatoes (face down), and chillies on the tray. Drizzle a little bit of olive oil over them and sprinkle with sea salt.

  3. Cook all this in your oven for 30 mins.

  4. Take the ingredients out of the oven and allow to cool slightly. Once cool enough, peel the cloves of garlic.

  5. Put the onion, tomatoes, garlic, chillies, sugar, salt, water and vinegar in a blender.

  6. Blend until everything reaches a smooth consistency. If you prefer it completely smooth, you can filter it through cheese cloth to remove any bits of vegetable.

  7. Now you have your hot sauce!

Your hot sauce can now be stored in the fridge – it should last a month.

To infuse your sauce with the power of cannabis, simply add about ¼ of a cup of hot sauce into a saucepan along with the cannabutter. Heat over a low-medium heat and mix constantly until the butter is fully melded with the sauce. This will now make for excellent dipping or marinating – but it won’t last as long as the base hot sauce, so it is best to infuse the sauce as you need it.

The chicken wings

  1. Preheat your oven to 220°C.

  2. Place your wings in a bowl.

  3. Drizzle them with olive oil and sprinkle the seasonings over them. Ensure an even coating.

  4. Spray a baking tray with non-stick coating then place your wings on it. Cook them in the oven for 30-45 minutes.

  5. Take your desired amount of hot sauce and gently warm it over a low heat.

  6. Once done, cover chicken wings in the warm sauce before serving.

Making your own cannabis-infused hot sauce is super simple. Once you have it, you can use it for all kinds of applications – the only limitation is your culinary imagination! The great thing about this hot sauce recipe is that it can be adjusted for both spiciness and cannabis potency. Remember, cannabis edibles can take between 45-90 minutes to set in, so take it easy with the first batch so you get a good bearing of strength.
