TIPS TO MAKE YOUR JOINT BURN SLOWER

1. GET THE RIGHT PAPERS

Get The Right Rolling Papers

Rolling papers come in all shapes and sizes, from the regular papers used to roll cigarettes to the foot long Raw papers. Choosing the right paper comes down to what works for you, but we always recommend buying top-shelf papers from respected manufacturers.

Unbleached hemp papers are a popular choice for many smokers, offering a clean, even burn - but stick to whatever you're comfortable with. If you can’t make up your mind, check out this article on our top 5 favourite rolling papers.

Remember that parts of your joint with overlapping paper will burn slower than the rest. Hence, to ensure an even burn, try to roll in a way that minimises the overlap.

2. USE TOP-SHELF BUD

Use Top-Shelf Bud

You can’t expect to roll a great joint if you’re using crap bud. The biggest factor affecting how well your bud burns is how long it has been cured. Plus, any unnatural additives will also affect the burn-rate of your weed.

Hence, whenever possible, do your best to source clean, properly cured buds. If you live in a place where cannabis is legal, this will be much easier for you as the products available are likely to be regulated more stringently. 3. USE A GRINDER

Use A Grinder

Grinding your weed to an even consistency is essential for getting a slow, consistent burn on your joint.

Larger pieces of bud take longer to burn. By breaking the buds into smaller, evenly-sized pieces, you essentially ensure that all parts of your joint burn at the same rate.

The best way to achieve an even consistency with your buds is to use a grinder. Grinders come in all shapes and sizes, and picking the perfect one comes down to your preferences. You can browse our range of herb grinders, if you wish.

Whichever grinder you choose, just make sure you don’t over or under-grind your weed; too fine a grind will prevent proper airflow and undermine your smoking experience, while a loose grind will likely lead to a fast, uneven burn. If you don’t have a grinder handy, there are simple ways to evenly chop up your herb without a grinder.

4. DON’T ROLL TOO TIGHT OR TOO LOOSE

Don’t Roll Too Tight Or Too Loose

Rolling a joint is an art form and most rollers have their own little tips and tricks for getting a perfect roll. However, if there’s one thing we can all agree on it's this:

A great joint is neither too tight nor too loose. Roll too loose and your joint will burn down in seconds; roll too tight and you’ll struggle to get a nice, clean draw when puffing.

How To Roll A Perfect Joint?

Aim for the same level of tightness as a cigarette. If you’re unsure, try taking a few hits of your joint before lighting it to test the waters. If you notice that it's hard to pull air through the joint, that's a sign that you’ve rolled too tight and you may be better off taking your jay apart and starting fresh.

Rolling the perfect joint takes practice and you’ll get there by biting the bullet, rolling a lot, and accepting the fact that you might have to smoke some not-so-great jays before you get your technique down pat.

5. USE A TOOTHPICK

Use A Toothpick

Imagine this; you’ve just rolled a fattie and take a few dry hits to test the airflow, only to realise that the draw on your jay is terrible. If you’re not ready to take your entire piece apart and start fresh, here is a neat little trick for you.

Take a toothpick and gently borrow it from the tip of your joint all the way to the filter. As you do so, try wriggling the toothpick slightly to create a kind of tunnel that’ll maximise airflow throughout the whole joint when you puff.

This method allows you to get an even, consistent burn and great draw, even on really tight jays. It also saves you the heartbreak of tearing apart your hard-earned roll.

6. TRY A PLUMBER’S JOINT

Try A Plumber’s Joint

A plumber’s joint works off the same principle as the toothpick method; by creating a tunnel through the centre of your joint, you’re able to maximise airflow and guarantee a slower, more even burn.

To roll a plumber’s joint, you need to create a paper pipe to run through the centre of your joint from the filter to the tip.

Do this by rolling an empty paper backwards around a meat skewer to create a small tunnel. Take the paper in your hand like you would normally, then flip it so the sticky part is on the side closest to you, but facing the floor.

Then lick the sticky gum and roll the paper tightly around the meat skewer. Finally, remove the excess paper. Then get a second paper, lay your weed out evenly across it, and place your little tunnel in the middle and proceed to roll a regular joint. Once done, simply pull out the meat skewer.

The idea is to roll a joint with the tunnel in the middle going all the way from the tip to the filter. This will ensure airflow, regardless of how much bud you cram into your jay.
