6 Ways To Smoke Weed Without A Lighter

We’ve all been there before. It’s been a long day and now you’re ready for some serious down time. You reach into the stash jar and pull out a smelly and frosty nugget of weed. You process it down and begin to roll a large and impressive joint. The deed is done, you greet your lips with the end of the joint and decide it’s time to blaze up. But wait, where’s your lighter?

This situation is a dire one, especially when it’s late at night and the shops are too far away or worse - closed. But fear not, there are still methods than can be used to spark your joint, or even eat your weed to ensure that you get high. Although most of them are highly unconventional, they are effective.

Use the sun for a solar hit

Taking a solar hit means utilising the power of the sun in order to set your cannabis alight. Solar hits are perhaps the most organic and renewable way to smoke some herb. They require no fuel, they don’t contaminate smoke with chemicals, and they never run out.

To take a solar hit, you will need a small glass jar, dried cannabis bud, a magnifying glass, and a reasonably warm and sunny day.

Head outside and place the weed nug within the small glass jar. Hold the magnifying glass up and allow the sun's rays to become concentrated and magnified. Aim this powerful beam of light through the glass and onto the weed.

The heat of the day will dictate how fast this phenomenon takes, but with time and patience, your glass will become full of THC-rich smoke. Next, remove the lid of the glass jar and take a well-deserved hit.

Create some sparks

There are numerous ways to create a spark. Depending on how you make them, it may be hard to aim the sparks directly to the end of a joint or on top of a bowl loaded with bud. In this case, you can also go outside and make sure the spark lands on a small tinder bundle from which you can light your joint. Tinder can be made from dried leaves and wood shavings.

If you are the survivalist type, you may have a firesteel or ferrocerium rod lying around. If so, use these tools to create an instant spark. If you don’t possess this kind of equipment, then you can always use a more makeshift method. Rubbing the positive end of an AA or 9-volt battery against some steel wool will instantly generate sparks. This method requires caution and we do not recommend trying it at home.

Try the toaster

The filaments inside a toaster aren’t just good for cooking up your bread, but will light your spliff in no time! Modern toasters shouldn’t be able to electrocute you unless you actually break one of the filaments. Nevertheless, it’s worth checking yours specifically before putting your hand in there! Either way, watch your fingertips. If it’s hot enough to light your spliff, you can be certain that it’s hot enough to burn you as well. But, needs must!

Get handy with a butter knife

Also known as hot knives, this method works best with hash, but can be used with bud as well. Think of it as the poor man’s bong.You will need another source of heat for this; an electric burner works well. Heat the knives, and then press them together with your weed between them. Then, simply breathe in the smoke. There are variations of this that are a little more sophisticated. But given how unsophisticated this method is, they’re probably overkill!

Grab a car lighter

If this is an option, you’re living like a king. It requires little to no explanation. Simply let it charge and then light up. Maybe hotbox the car while you’re at it! Not having a lighter is annoying, but with a little ingenuity, it needn’t be the end of the world. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And while stoners might have a reputation for being a little lazy, when it comes to having a smoke, nothing will stop them!

You can even use dry spaghetti

As it happens, dry spaghetti is quite a flammable substance. It’s been reported than you can press the end of a dry piece of spaghetti against a hot stovetop to generate fire. The end of the piece will light, meaning you can use it as a giant match to light your joint or fire up a bowl.

Not having a lighter is annoying, but with a little ingenuity, it needn’t be the end of the world. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And while stoners might have a reputation for being a little lazy, when it comes to having a smoke, nothing will stop them!
