Sandalwoods belong to the genus Santalum, which receives its name from the Sanskrit word chandana, which means "wood for burning incense". Slow growing, hemiparasitic, and notoriously difficult to care for, cultivating sandalwood is a labour-intensive process that requires plenty of skill and patience. Harvesting trees at the right moment is also important, as the age of a tree greatly impacts its aroma—for the production of distillates, trees of no less than 40 years of age are preferred. Sandalwood is also used in Jainism, Buddhism, and Sufism, playing a central role in a variety of rituals, ceremonies, and celebrations. Thanks to its rich fragrance, sandalwood has also been employed extensively in the perfume and fragrance industries.

How to Use Sandalwood Essential Oil

Zamnesia sandalwood essential oil is made using carefully sourced true sandalwood varieties and a slow distillation process that preserves the wood's many volatile aromatic compounds.
