How To Stay Up-To-Date With The Cannabis Industry
The cannabis industry is always changing. Here's how to stay up-to-date on all things cannabis.
Navigating the murky waters of the cannabis industry can be difficult. And with so many legislative and other changes hitting the industry all the time, staying up-to-date on the world of cannabis is absolutely crucial.
STAY UPDATED ON ALL THINGS CANNABIS
If you’re interested in the cannabis industry for whatever reason, follow the tips below to make sure you’re always cued in on what’s going on.
1. SIGN UP TO NEWSLETTERS AND BLOGS
Blogs and online publications are one of the easiest ways to stay current on the cannabis industry. We personally like to follow Drugs Inc. and High Times.
For constant updates, make sure to sign up for newsletters and alerts from your favourite publishers to get notified whenever there’s a news break.
If you’re worried about having your personal or work accounts clogged with all of these updates, consider creating a separate online account for all your cannabis-related information.
2. CREATE GOOGLE ALERTS
Google Alerts is one of the best ways to stay informed about updates on virtually anything.
Setting up Google Alerts for the cannabis industry is easy. Here’s how it’s done:
1 Go to google.com/alerts.
2. Set the search terms you want alerts for. Some potential search terms include:
- cannabis industry
- cannabis/marijuana/weed
- Legal weed/cannabis/marijuana
- Dispensary/dispensaries
- Cannabis/marijuana/weed in YOUR LOCATION
3. Use "Show Options" to narrow down your alerts to specific regions, sources, languages, as well as to choose which email your alerts should get sent to, and how often.
Over time, you’ll have a better understanding of what kind of content is most relevant to you. As that happens, make sure to keep tweaking your Google Alerts settings to only get the best, most relevant content sent to your inbox.
3. LISTEN TO PODCASTS
Podcasts are a great source of information, and the cannabis industry is taking full advantage of this amazing platform. Best of all, you don’t need to download anything to start listening; simply use the Podcast App on iOS or Google Play Music if you use Android. If you really want to try a third-party app just for podcasts, try Player FM.
Remember that there’s a lot of content on the web, and simply typing “cannabis” into your podcast app is going to render all kinds of different results. Try to narrow down your search to find more tailored content, such as podcasts about growing, industry news, etc.
Some podcasts we recommend checking out include:
- CannaInsider (in-depth industry news)
- Dude Grows (cultivation, news, and cannabis humour)
- The Adam Dunn Show (news, science, culture)
- The Potcast (breeding, culture, and long-form interviews)
- I’m Too Effing High (humour)
- Great Moments In Weed History (history, duh)
- High Friends (a podcast for women who love cannabis)
4. SUBSCRIBE TO CANNABIS YOUTUBE CHANNELS
YouTube can be a powerful educational tool. So, if you’re getting into the world of cannabis, make sure to milk it for everything from grow tips and equipment reviews to in-depth industry news.
Unfortunately, YouTube has a strange relationship with weed, and sometimes deactivates cannabis-related channels for their content. Also, some cannabis content might be hidden from general feeds, so you’re best off checking out specific channels directly rather than using YouTube’s search engine to browse content.
Some cannabis-related YouTube channels you should check out include:
- Vice (news)
- The Cannabis Connoisseur Connection or “theCCC420” (cannabis culture, product reviews, etc.)
- Grower’s Network (cultivation)
- Lex Blazer (cultivation, breeding, extraction, etc.)
- That High Couple (travel, education, lifestyle/culture, etc.)
- Coral Reefer (Q&A, news, etc.)
- Cannabis Saves Lives (medical marijuana)
- Cannabis in Canada (Canadian news, events, grow tips, etc.)
5. FOLLOW WEED INFLUENCERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
After following the first four tips on this list, you’ll soon get a good idea of prominent figures in the cannabis scene. And one of the best ways to stay up-to-date with the world of weed is, without a doubt, to follow these people on social media.
Social media is easily one of the biggest drivers of news and online content, and following prominent cannabis figures on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook can be one of the fastest ways to stay on top of the latest industry news.
Some cannabis influencers to consider following include:
- Steve DeAngelo
- Rachna Patel
- Krishna Sai Andavolu
- Seth Rogen
- Tommy Chong
- Willie Nelson
- Jorge Cervantes
