Marihuanilla (Leonurus sibiricus) Seeds: Fragrant, Purple Flowers
If you're looking for a lanky flowering plant to add to your garden, marihuanilla (Leonurus sibiricus) may be just what you need. It can reach 80cm in height, and its purple flowers are produced in whorls on the top half of the stem, as are long, spiky leaves. These annual or biennial plants flower from July to late September, and during that time will attract various pollinators into the garden.
Marihuanilla thrives in the sun, but it will also grow well in partial shade. Although it prefers dry, sandy, well-draining soil, it's forgiving when it comes to watering.
Sow your seeds indoors for best results. Scatter on moist soil and sprinkle with a little bit of soil on top. Ideally, seeds need an environment of 20–25°C to germinate. After 1–2 weeks, you should see them sprout. When seedlings are large enough, transplant them into individual pots, and plant out when there is no danger of frost, after acclimatising first. Plants don't tolerate temperatures below 0°C, and can be taken inside during winter if grown in pots.
