How to use a ceramic bong

Using a ceramic bong depends somewhat on its design. Firstly, knowing what each part of a bong does is essential to understanding how to use one.

• The mouthpiece—this is where you draw the smoke from and inhale.
• The bowl—this is where you load the herb. Once it's all burned, or you’ve had enough, you remove it, pulling fresh air through the downpipe.
• Downpipe—connects the bowl to the water chamber.
• Chamber—this is where the water goes, fill your piece just past the bottom of the downpipe.
• Carb hole—not every bong has it. As you burn your herb, you should cover the carb hole so all the air is drawn through the bowl. When you want to inhale, release the carb hole to pull fresh air in.

How to clean a ceramic bong

Ceramic bongs are fairly easy to clean. For a regular wash, warm soapy water will help keep your bong fresh and buildup free. Get in there with a brush to really work that grime out. From time to time, using alcohol or acid will be helpful to get those really embedded layers out.

The main downside to cleaning ceramics is that as it’s not transparent, it’s not as easy to see how dirty it is compared to a transparent alternative. So regular cleaning is a great idea and it will help you make sure that it doesn’t become too gross in there.

For the downpipe, pipe cleaners are more or less essential, else you’ll have a whole load of tar building up in there which will make drawing harder, and it will definitely impact the flavour.
