ACE Seeds - Hokkaido Japan Hemp: Rare, And Under Threat
Many people associate landrace strains with the mountains of Afghanistan and India or secluded meadows in Jamaica. Not many people realise that Japan, a region where cannabis was used for more than 2,000 years, is also home to rare and unique landrace genetics. Hokkaido Japan Hemp is a particular strain of hemp that developed in Hokkaido, the second-largest island in Japan.
The lack of intense selective breeding experienced by this strain manifests in small and compact flowers that possess low levels of cannabinoids. Laboratory analysis has shown THC levels of 0.3%, THCA levels of 0.4%, and CBD levels of 0.03%. Plants also contain minor levels of terpenes, with alpha-pinene being the most prominent at an average level of 405ppm. This aromatic molecule contributes to a scent of geranium and wild mountain spices.
Hokkaido Japan Hemp is recognised as an easy strain to grow. She features impressive resistance to power mildew, botrytis, cold, heat, spider mites, and whiteflies. She can be cultivated in an array of environments and displays semi-autoflowering traits, beginning bloom right after the summer solstice. Indoor flowering typically lasts between 6–8 weeks. Hokkaido Japan Hemp produces an average yield both indoors and outdoors. She requires only moderate levels of nutrients throughout the growing cycle, so be careful not to overdo things.
This strain won’t get you stoned, and will only have very subtle therapeutic qualities. At most, these flowers offer an extremely light psychoactive effect characterised by slight relaxation. However, these rare genetics are certainly attractive to cannabis seed collectors, researchers, and science in general.
Hokkaido Japan Hemp is thought to have been subject to the hand of man at some point throughout its history. These genetics are believed to stem from old hemp varieties cultivated in the region. The low rate of hermaphroditism is a sign that selective breeding did take place at some point. After a long period of adaptation and interbreeding in the Japanese wilderness, Hokkaido Japan Hemp became a very stable variety that displays little variation in phenotypes.
What makes this strain particularly attractive to science is the uniqueness of its heritage. Genetic analysis has revealed that the strain is in no way related to European or Russian hemp varieties. Instead, it’s thought to have descended from Chinese and Korean strains. Many growers may choose to cultivate Hokkaido Japan Hemp out of pure curiosity, but doing so is also an act of preservation. Hemp associations in Japan plan on cultivating European hemp varieties, a move that will introduce foreign pollen into the gene pool and potentially erase this landrace strain forever.

Excellent
Very good product.
Alles bestens
