Cherry blossoms can be found growing natively across the Northern Hemisphere. But in few places are they so iconic as in Japan. Since the Nara period (710 CE), the Japanese have been practicing hanami, a type of feasting performed under sakuras and other flowering plants, and the cherry blossom has also featured in countless nationalist, military, and sporting campaigns. In aromatherapy, sakura oil is used to soothe and elevate the mood of a given space.
