Not to be confused with Dalbergia nigra (Brazilian rosewood) or Dalbergia latifolia (Indian rosewood), both hardwoods used for furniture and instruments, Aniba rosaeodora is a massive tree species that grows up to 30 metres tall and develops 2 metre-wide trunks. Though only its trunks are used to distill rosewood oil, all parts of the tree produce its distinct aroma. Once harvested, Aniba rosaeodora trunks are turned into chips and slowly steam-distilled to extract their delicate, highly aromatic essential oil. Though an endangered species, efforts are being made to make the cultivation and use of Aniba rosaeodora more sustainable.
Rosewood oil has long been considered a luxury oil used all over the world for aromatherapy purposes. Its aroma, which is woody, floral, spicy, and sweet all at once, produces a grounding and centring energy in any room.
